Sample Ads

Pg. 136 Visa
1. If I didn't see the Visa logo I wouldn't of been able to guess that is was for a Visa account.  I would think that the ad would be for someone getting their first tattoo or something sexual because she is lifting her shirt up.  

2. The image is saying "sexy" so that people will buy their product. In this particular ad Visa is aiming at the male audience by showing a women's stomach.  

3. I could see this ad in mainly mens magazines or in the newspaper.  Somewhere where men would see it. It would be better shown in People magazine than in Good Housekeeping

4. If the tattoo was on a different part of the body I don't think Visa would get as much of attention that they get from this placement. If it changed areas it would definitely lose its sex appeal. 


The next ad I analyzed was the Stolichnaya Flavored Russian Vodka on pg 138 but I couldn't find that exact image. I looked for a good 10 minutes! I was determined but gave up. 

1. The two young women make the vodka look sexy and flirty, by drinking this drink you'll meet young beautiful women. It makes the drink look seductive. And because there is both a blond and a brunette with two different drinks in front of them it shows different flavors (types) of drinks.

2.  The target audience would mainly have to be for men but also for women making them think that if they drink this vodka they too would look like these women.  I could see this in People magazine or Mens health or any more popular magazine. This ad is very affective. 

3.  The young women are posing for the picture being taken and being flirty/sexy.  The lifestyle the ad promotes would have to be fun and mysterious. The promise is that if you don't try something knew you won't know what it would be like. 

4.  The text under the women says "To variety. If you don't experiment, how will you know what you like?" which is describing both the women and the drink. It is speaking about the women because one is blond while the other is brunette. The drinks are also two different drinks or different flavors of the vodka. The reader is mainly meant for the males eyes.

  1. You have a lot of good details about the ads and some thought-provoking observations and analysis. You have a good way of getting beneath the surface with the ads to the more subliminal messages.
